Four Financial Firms Hit by Data Breaches

Coinbase, Bithumb, Mirae Asset, and Daishin Securities have confirmed separate security incidents, exposing varying levels of customer information. While the scope of the leaks ranges from contact details to sensitive credit records, firms are scrambling to contain the fallout and reassure users that core trading infrastructure remains intact.

Four Financial Firms Hit by Data Breaches

Daishin Securities faces the most significant confirmed exposure, with 38,490 customers having their personal and credit information compromised. Hackers targeted a server linked to the firm's remote account service, accessing data that included names, email addresses, and bank account numbers. The brokerage stated that while sensitive identifiers were encrypted, it is working with the Financial Security Institute to manage the aftermath. CEO Jin Seung-wook has pledged to implement stricter access controls following the breach.

Elsewhere, the landscape of the incidents remains mixed. Coinbase attributed its leak to an external analytics provider, Amplitude, insisting that its own internal systems were not compromised. Similarly, South Korean exchange Bithumb is still determining if customer account data was stolen after an unauthorized party accessed its internal mobile groupware. Mirae Asset Global Investments reported an intrusion into its internal web systems but asserted that no sensitive investor records were viewed. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao has urged users to migrate away from SMS-based authentication and employ hardware keys to mitigate the risks of phishing and social engineering following these disclosures.
