The new integration enables a "Trade" button on supported cashtags—tickers preceded by a dollar sign, such as $BTC or $COIN. When tapped, the feature redirects users to participating partners including Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo. X does not execute these trades itself; instead, it acts as a discovery layer, leaving account requirements, identity verification, and asset availability entirely to the chosen brokerage.
This expansion builds on the foundation of smart cashtags introduced last year, which provided iPhone users with live price data and context for various financial instruments. Product engineering lead Mridul Singhai noted that the goal is to shorten the distance between market observation and action. While the platform continues to refine its broader "Everything App" ambitions—including the separate X Money payment system—this brokerage-link model keeps the social platform distinct from the regulated environment of order execution.
