Gold and Silver Approach Critical Support Levels

Gold and silver are teetering near technical support zones that, if breached, could trigger a broad market capitulation. Independent analyst Jesse Colombo warns that despite falling bond yields, a combination of risk aversion and aggressive liquidations is pushing precious metals toward a potential breakdown in price momentum.

Gold and Silver Approach Critical Support Levels

The current sell-off appears uncoupled from traditional market drivers. While rising oil prices typically exert pressure, Colombo notes the decline in gold is disproportionate to the roughly 2% to 2.5% move in crude. Instead, he points to a technical breakdown fueled by anxiety surrounding upcoming midterm elections and instability in tech stocks.

Adding to the uncertainty is speculation regarding potential U.S. escalation in the Iran conflict. Investors seem to be adopting a sell-first mentality to avoid exposure over the weekend. On the technical front, gold futures are testing a floor between $3,900 and $4,000—a support zone established roughly one year ago. A definitive close below this range on strong volume could signal a slide toward $3,500.

Silver faces a similarly precarious test near the 45–55 zone, a historical pivot point dating back to the 1980 peak and the 2011 market cycle. While silver managed a breakout in late 2025, it is now retesting that level from above. Colombo remains focused on whether this zone holds or if a quick flush below $50 will force a deeper correction.
