This capital infusion, split into $370 million in equity and $100 million in debt, signals the firm's deepening bet on critical infrastructure.

The Series C financing, co-led by Caffeinated Capital with participation from Industrious Ventures, Point72 Ventures, and Shine Capital, arrives shortly after Paradigm closed its $1.2 billion fourth fund. While the firm maintains its core commitment to blockchain, this investment highlights an aggressive pivot toward AI, robotics, and energy hardware. Antares represents a strategic asset for the firm, positioning it at the intersection of AI-driven power demand and national security priorities.

Antares is currently one of three finalists in a Pentagon program aimed at testing small modular reactors at U.S. Air Force installations. The company’s demonstration reactor, the Mark-0, achieved criticality at the Idaho National Laboratory in June, proving the technical viability of its design. Utilizing TRISO fuel—a robust carbon-and-ceramic-coated uranium particle—the system is designed to provide 100 kilowatts to 1 megawatt of power. The company plans to deploy its first production unit next year, with the primary objective of serving military bases by 2028.

This capital injection mirrors a broader trend as investors scramble to secure energy sources for hyperscale data centers. Despite the excitement, the sector faces substantial manufacturing and cost hurdles. Lazard estimates suggest early-stage modular reactor electricity could cost upwards of $214 per megawatt-hour, significantly higher than traditional grid power. For Paradigm, however, the bet is clear: as AI infrastructure expands, the firms controlling the physical energy supply may prove as essential as those building the software.
