Houthis Target Saudi Oil Infrastructure in Escalating Border Conflict

Iran-aligned Houthi militants claimed responsibility on Monday for strikes against pumping stations along Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, a critical artery that allows the Kingdom to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. The group also reported targeting Riyadh’s airport as regional hostilities intensify following a wave of recent drone and missile salvos.

While Saudi authorities have yet to confirm the pipeline breach, the threat looms large for global energy markets. The 740-mile-long Petroline, which recently restored capacity to 5.8 million barrels per day, previously shuttered for two weeks in September after drone strikes paralyzed operations at the Yanbu port. The current claims follow a weekend interception of a ballistic missile over Riyadh and a deadly strike near the Shaybah oilfield, where debris killed two people last week.

These attacks mark an expansion of the Houthi campaign against Saudi infrastructure. The militia asserts these actions are retaliatory measures against the Saudi-led coalition’s ongoing offensive to reclaim territory near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Although production at the major Shaybah processing facilities remains operational, the recurrence of strikes continues to unsettle markets already sensitive to potential disruptions in Saudi crude exports via the Red Sea.
