U.S. Military Claims Control Over Strait of Hormuz Oil Transit

More than 1.5 billion barrels of oil have successfully cleared the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. naval protection since the onset of hostilities, according to CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper. This operation, involving over 3,000 commercial vessels, highlights the military’s ongoing effort to secure critical global energy corridors.

U.S. Military Claims Control Over Strait of Hormuz Oil Transit

Adm. Cooper visited the waterway on Sunday, emphasizing a commitment to freedom of navigation amid persistent regional friction. U.S. Central Command reports a 95% success rate for transit, asserting that American forces have effectively cleared international shipping lanes of mines previously deployed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Tanker-tracking data suggests that oil volumes through the Strait have rebounded, with some estimates even surpassing pre-war levels, excluding Iranian exports.

Despite these logistical gains, the maritime environment remains volatile. Escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces, combined with Iranian claims of strikes on tankers, maintain a significant risk profile for the shipping industry. Markets continue to factor in these persistent threats, keeping shipping costs at record highs and sustaining upward pressure on global crude prices. On Monday, Brent Crude held above $115 per barrel, while WTI traded over $100, reflecting deep-seated concerns over the stability of Middle Eastern energy exports.
