Solflare Imposes Strict Access Controls Following Security Incidents

Solana-based wallet provider Solflare has entered a self-described “bunker mode,” locking down its infrastructure and code following a wave of industry-wide security breaches. The firm now mandates multiple approvals for all internal changes and has frozen new system additions to mitigate risks of unauthorized access.

Solflare Imposes Strict Access Controls Following Security Incidents

Co-founder Vidor confirmed the development team is prioritizing stability over speed, acknowledging that the new protocols will inevitably slow down the product roadmap. The decision follows an October 27 incident where a third-party staking provider suffered a security compromise involving keys linked to Solflare’s validator. While no customer funds were lost, the breach halted staking rewards for users delegating SOL to the affected validator.

To address the fallout, Solflare has migrated to a new validator and extended the user migration deadline to November 30. The company pledged to cover the missed rewards for affected users between October 26 and November 1. Customers are instructed to complete the transition exclusively through the official Solflare application, as the firm warned that scammers are already attempting to exploit the situation with fraudulent phishing links. This tightening of internal controls aligns with broader industry trends, as other exchanges and platforms implement emergency security measures in response to recent high-profile crypto hacks.
