The expansion follows the earlier rollout of Smart Cashtags, which provided real-time charts and asset data directly within the app. While X facilitates the discovery process, the platform itself does not execute trades or hold funds. Instead, users are handed off to their chosen brokerage or exchange to handle authentication and transaction completion. This workflow functions independently of X Money, the platform's separate peer-to-peer payment and wallet feature currently in testing.
Product Engineering Lead Mridul Singhai noted that the integration aims to reduce the friction between viewing market discussions and reaching a trading venue. Kraken, one of the five launch partners, confirmed its support for nearly 2,500 assets, though availability remains subject to individual account eligibility and geographic restrictions. Interactive Brokers has supplemented the launch with a promotional offer, providing a $100 credit for new U.S. clients who open and fund accounts through the integration. While X previously estimated that an earlier pilot program generated $1 billion in global trading volume, the company has not disclosed the financial terms or revenue-sharing arrangements underpinning this latest U.S. expansion.
