ZetaChain Moves Toward Solana Migration Following Governance Vote

ZetaChain is nearing a major structural shift as 99.4% of voters supported Proposal 68, a mandate to migrate the ZETA token to Solana and eventually decommission the project's native Layer 1 blockchain. The vote surpassed the 40% quorum requirement, signaling strong community alignment ahead of the September 20 deadline.

The approval of Proposal 68 authorizes core contributors to begin the complex logistics of transitioning ZETA into a native Solana SPL token. Under this plan, the token supply remains unchanged, with a 1:1 conversion ratio for holders. A notable technical adjustment will see the token’s decimal precision shift from 18 places to nine, with balances rounded down for any fractional amounts below the new threshold. Existing vesting schedules will remain in effect throughout the transition.

This vote serves only as an initial authorization; a second governance action, designated as Proposal 2, will be required to finalize the migration mechanics. This subsequent step will define the specific block height for the balance snapshot, the schedule for the Layer 1 network halt, and coordination protocols with centralized exchanges. Validators are expected to continue their operations and staking rewards will persist until the formal shutdown date established in the second proposal.

The project’s shift is driven by a desire to pivot toward AI-integrated infrastructure. ZetaChain intends to move its Anuma application—which currently serves over 300,000 users—to the Solana ecosystem. By abandoning its independent Cosmos-based network, the team aims to reduce the operational burden of managing security patches and validator coordination associated with the Cosmos SDK. ZetaChain cited Solana’s high transaction speeds and low costs as superior environments for hosting its Private Memory Layer and supporting AI-driven agent transactions.
