Moscow Exchange Expands Crypto Derivatives With Perpetual Futures

Starting September 22, the Moscow Exchange will introduce perpetual futures tied to Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, and Tron indexes. These cash-settled contracts, which automatically roll over daily, are designed to provide qualified investors with exposure to digital asset price movements without requiring physical delivery of the underlying tokens.

The new instruments follow a successful track record for the exchange, which has seen cumulative turnover in its crypto-linked derivatives exceed 600 billion rubles since the initial launch last summer. More than 72,000 qualified investors have participated in these markets to date, a figure that continues to grow as the exchange broadens its derivative offerings beyond the existing monthly contracts.

While the contracts are quoted in U.S. dollars, financial settlement occurs exclusively in rubles. The exchange calculates funding using specific parameters, setting K1 at 0% and K2 at 0.35%. This expansion into perpetuals mirrors the exchange’s existing lineup of 31 other perpetual contracts covering currency pairs, precious metals, and various securities.

Despite recent regulatory shifts on September 1 that opened pathways for broader retail cryptocurrency access in Russia, these perpetual futures remain strictly reserved for qualified investors. Maria Patrikeeva, managing director of the MOEX derivatives market, described the launch as a significant milestone, noting that the exchange continues to observe robust demand for derivatives linked to digital assets. The new products track indexes that update every 15 seconds, utilizing pricing data from major international exchanges to ensure market accuracy.
