Uzbekistan Launches Beshkala Mining Valley to Spur Regional Growth

Under a presidential resolution effective April 20, Uzbekistan has designated the entire Republic of Karakalpakstan as the Beshkala Mining Valley. The initiative creates a regulated environment for cryptocurrency mining, pairing significant tax incentives with a push to integrate digital asset revenue into the national banking system.

Licensed mining companies operating within the zone now have expanded power options, including access to the national electricity grid, solar energy, and hydrogen-based generation. This marks a shift from previous, more restrictive policies that primarily prioritized solar power. To participate, businesses must register as legal entities in Karakalpakstan and obtain resident status through a dedicated directorate, which acts as the primary authority for project oversight under the National Agency for Perspective Projects.

Financial incentives are designed to attract long-term investment, featuring tax exemptions that remain in effect until January 1, 2035. In exchange, operators must pay a monthly fee equal to 1% of their mining income to the directorate. While firms can trade assets on international platforms, they are required to repatriate all sale proceeds to Uzbek bank accounts. Beyond digital operations, the government is incentivizing physical infrastructure integration by permitting miners to repurpose excess heat from their equipment for greenhouse farming, aligning the project with broader regional development goals.
