Nexo maintains EU operations via German infrastructure partners

Following the July 1 expiration of the MiCA transitional period, Nexo has secured continued access to the European Economic Area by offloading core regulated activities to two German firms. The platform now routes client custody through Tangany and brokerage services through DLT Finance to meet strict EU licensing mandates.

Nexo manages the client-facing interface, but the heavy lifting of compliance now rests on its partners. Tangany, which secured its MiCA license in September 2025, handles digital-asset custody and staking. DLT Finance, operating under DLT Securities GmbH, provides the necessary brokerage and execution infrastructure, holding both MiCA authorization and MiFID II status as an investment firm. By splitting these functions, Nexo avoids the service suspensions that forced other unlicensed platforms to exit the market when the final EU-wide transition closed.

This partner-led model leaves certain product lines in a regulatory grey area. While custody and trading fall under the umbrella of the German partners' permissions, Nexo’s Earn rewards and crypto-backed loans remain outside the scope of current MiCA frameworks. Because the regulation does not fully address lending or yield-bearing products, these services operate under different terms, requiring users to distinguish between the protections afforded to their assets versus their credit agreements. As compliance costs rise across the bloc, this outsourcing strategy mirrors moves by other platforms like Kraken, signaling a broader consolidation trend in the European digital-asset sector.
