Hsiao-Wei Wang Departs Ethereum Foundation Leadership

After a decade of shaping the network's research and consensus protocols, Hsiao-Wei Wang has stepped down as co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Foundation. The announcement, made via X on June 18, 2026, follows a recent sabbatical that prompted a shift in her professional and personal priorities.

Hsiao-Wei Wang Departs Ethereum Foundation Leadership

Wang’s departure marks the latest transition within the organization’s executive tier, following the February exit of co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak. Bastian Aue, who assumed the role of interim co-executive director earlier this year, continues to manage the foundation’s operational structure. Vitalik Buterin praised Wang’s tenure, noting her instrumental role in formalizing research processes and fostering the Ethereum community in Taipei. Buterin highlighted that she navigated the foundation through turbulent market conditions with professional grace.

While Wang has not disclosed her future career plans, she emphasized that her exit does not signify a break from the broader ecosystem. Her departure occurs as the foundation undergoes a strategic recalibration, with Buterin recently advocating for the organization to function as a single, decentralized node rather than a central governing body. Despite the leadership shuffle, core development remains active, with the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade targeting improvements to Proposer-Builder Separation and block-level data efficiency. The foundation continues to distribute grants to support essential infrastructure projects, including Geth and various zero-knowledge research initiatives, maintaining its focus on protocol scaling and security.
