Seven Blockworks staff announce departures amid product shift

At least seven Blockworks employees announced departures in posts spanning October and November, as the crypto data company expands its product focus. Former analyst Jake Koch-Gallup said he was disappointed to see the firm move away from independent research, while other departing staff described their work and thanked colleagues.

The departures named in posts on X are Jake Koch-Gallup, Nick Carpinito, Kunal Doshi, Silvio Busonero, Westie, Nikhil and AJC. Nikhil’s announcement was dated Oct. 19; Westie and Doshi posted on Nov. 5, followed by Koch-Gallup and Carpinito on Nov. 6. Several said it was their last week at the company but did not give an exact leaving date. The posts did not indicate a coordinated resignation or a shared reason for leaving.

Westie said he was part of the founding group of Blockworks’ research team before building and scaling its data operation. He later moved into product work, which he said had become the company’s primary focus this year and beyond. He described that work positively.

Koch-Gallup wrote that he had spent two years at Messari and six months at Blockworks after its acquisition. “It’s sad to see one of the leading crypto research firms shift its focus away from research,” he said. He understood the decision to prioritize products but argued that independent research remained valuable, particularly as AI increased the importance of original human analysis.

Carpinito said he joined in early 2025 and saw Blockworks acquire Messari, launch a product suite and develop the Token Transparency Framework, which he said grew from an idea into a disclosure standard used on Bloomberg terminals. Doshi thanked colleagues and said his work with protocols had shaped his view of research papers as a way to tell a story. AJC said he was leaving after four years at Messari and six months at Blockworks, and planned to rest before deciding what came next. Nikhil said he would remain a regular user of the platform after more than two years at the company. Busonero thanked colleagues and expressed enthusiasm for his next chapter.

Blockworks opened its MCP data service to everyone on Nov. 3, offering new accounts $100 in credits. The service launched for API customers on Oct. 1. The company said users can connect the data to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client to ask about protocol revenue, stablecoin growth and upcoming token unlocks. On Nov. 6, it published what it called the final edition of its 0xResearch newsletter.

Blockworks acquired Messari on June 12, combining their research, data and market intelligence operations. The acquisition announcement said Messari covered more than 40,000 assets. Blockworks had previously secured a $192 million valuation before the transaction.
