Crypto creators clash over FOMO’s $500 monthly video retainer

A recruitment listing from the trading app FOMO, offering $500 for 30 monthly promotional videos, has ignited a sharp debate among content creators. Critics argue the pay fails to match the required workload, while defenders contend the rate aligns with standard market practices for short-form social media content.

The dispute centers on a recruitment post shared on X by creator Eliza, which outlines a commitment of 10–15 hours per week to produce and post 30 videos across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. At a base rate of $500, the retainer breaks down to approximately $16.67 per video, excluding potential performance bonuses and referral commissions that can reach up to 75% of generated fees.

Eliza challenged the offer, suggesting that FOMO’s status as a high-earning industry player should command higher compensation for creators. Her critique sparked a polarized response. Some users calculated the hourly wage at roughly $8.33 to $12.50 based on the 40-to-60-hour monthly time estimate provided in the listing. Conversely, defenders like creator GUJJU argued that the task involves simple, low-production-value content that can be completed in five hours or less, effectively pushing the hourly rate toward $100.

Beyond the primary offer, FOMO maintains other promotional campaigns, including a separate, currently paused initiative through Clip Farm that required 62 clips per month. These marketing efforts coincide with a period of rapid expansion for the company, which secured a $550 million valuation following a $75 million Series B round in June. As creators debate the economics of these deals, they remain subject to strict Federal Trade Commission guidelines requiring clear disclosure of financial relationships within the videos themselves, regardless of the platform or the creator’s location.
