Gas Prices Under Trump Surpass Biden-Era Average

The average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline under Donald Trump’s second term has hit $3.472, narrowly eclipsing the $3.471 average recorded throughout Joe Biden’s presidency. This shift arrives just days before the November 3 midterm elections, complicating the administration’s earlier pledge to drive fuel costs toward $2.

Gas Prices Under Trump Surpass Biden-Era Average

The current national average sits at approximately $4.29 per gallon, a sharp climb from the $3.05 recorded at this time last year. This surge stems primarily from the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, which ignited in February and crippled key crude oil shipments and Middle Eastern refining operations. Despite the United States maintaining its position as the world’s leading oil producer, gasoline prices have spiked 43% since the hostilities began.

Diesel costs face even greater volatility, currently averaging $6.35 per gallon after hitting a record $6.53 in September. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, expects prices to remain above the $4 threshold for gasoline and $6 for diesel through Election Day. While the White House has moved to bolster domestic refining and secure supplemental supplies, industry executives caution that expanding capacity is a slow process that offers no immediate relief for household budgets.
