The privately held firm, led by Venezuela-born businessman Alejandro Betancourt, currently operates three drilling rigs in the Junin area. One additional rig has already arrived in the country, with plans to activate two more shortly. This expansion supports a 25-year roadmap that envisions deploying 60 rigs and 70 pieces of heavy construction equipment across the region. By mid-October, the company reported production reaching 223,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
While the White House touted the project as a monumental energy deal, the financial mechanics remain opaque. The agreement grants NABEP 100-year concessions for 17 oilfields holding roughly 65 billion barrels of reserves, with a potential investment ceiling of $100 billion. Analysts at Rystad Energy caution that this figure represents a long-term funding requirement rather than immediate committed capital. Despite questions surrounding the financing, NABEP maintains a near-term objective to push output above 1 million barrels per day through rapid development in Lake Maracaibo and the Orinoco Belt.
