Governor Pavel Malkov confirmed a massive drone strike hit the Rosneft-owned Ryazan facility, which processes nearly 5 percent of Russia’s total oil capacity. While Kyiv has not officially claimed the operation, the strike marks a decisive break from the pause in hostilities that began October 11. Zelenskyy stated clearly to the Financial Times that Ukraine is finished holding fire, particularly after Moscow continued to pummel Ukrainian energy infrastructure throughout the supposed truce.
Tensions are further inflamed by a suspected intelligence blackout. Lawmakers, including Senator Thom Tillis, are demanding a Pentagon inspector-general investigation into the failure of Starshield—the military version of SpaceX’s satellite network. While the White House has distanced itself from Elon Musk’s commercial operations, Musk countered that Starshield systems remain under direct U.S. government control. Military analysts warn that if these connectivity limits persist, they could prevent Ukrainian forces from intercepting incoming Russian drones, leaving civilian populations and critical infrastructure exposed to lethal strikes.
