Billionaire Adam Weitsman snaps up 117 Pudgy Penguins NFTs

American billionaire and collector Adam Weitsman announced the purchase of 117 Pudgy Penguins NFTs over the October 10–11 weekend. The acquisition, disclosed on X, aims to bolster the project’s community during a volatile period for the digital collectibles market, following a recent surge in trading volume for the collection.

Weitsman described the move as a strategic effort to instill confidence in the project, which he considers a personal favorite. While the businessman did not reveal the total expenditure or specific transaction hashes for the 117 assets, the announcement coincides with a notable uptick in market activity. CryptoSlam data from October 10 indicated that Pudgy Penguins generated $1.50 million in sales over the preceding week, marking a 125.66% increase. This period saw 196 transactions and 94 unique buyer addresses, pointing to a recovery in interest despite broader market stagnation.

This purchase mirrors Weitsman’s previous activity in the sector, most notably his August 2025 acquisition of over 5,000 Yuga Labs-related NFTs. While his latest investment focuses on the penguin-themed brand, the broader ecosystem faces mixed signals. Though Pudgy Penguins continues to expand its retail footprint through physical merchandise and trading cards at stores like Target, the project’s associated consumer blockchain, Abstract, recently confirmed plans to cease operations by December 15, 2026. Weitsman’s current commitment to the "Huddle" community appears to be a vote of confidence in the brand's long-term cultural relevance, regardless of the underlying network challenges.
