Gold Holds Steady as U.S. Jobless Claims Dip Below Forecasts

With U.S. unemployment filings dropping to 197,000 for the week ending October 3, gold prices are showing resilience. The figure outperformed consensus expectations of 200,000, signaling continued strength in the labor market even as the precious metal hovers at $4,122.37 per ounce, marking a modest daily gain of 0.27 percent.

Gold Holds Steady as U.S. Jobless Claims Dip Below Forecasts

The Labor Department’s latest report shows a slight improvement in the labor market, with the new claims figure falling below the revised 199,000 filings recorded the previous week. Investors are closely watching these fluctuations to gauge the broader economic impact on safe-haven assets. The four-week moving average settled at 198,000, aligning with analyst projections and helping to smooth out recent volatility in the data.

While new filings trended downward, continuing jobless claims for the week ending September 26 reached 1.716 million. This figure slightly exceeded the anticipated 1.710 million, rising from the previously revised level of 1.699 million. Gold remains anchored in the middle of its daily trading range despite the tug-of-war between positive hiring indicators and the persistent number of individuals currently drawing unemployment benefits.
