LBMA Delegates Forecast Gold at $5,000 Amid Global Debt Concerns

Delegates at the 2026 London Bullion Market Association Global Precious Metals Conference are betting on a significant rally, projecting gold to reach $5,013.30 and silver to hit $94.70 an ounce within the next year, despite ongoing pressure from high interest rates and surging bond yields.

LBMA Delegates Forecast Gold at $5,000 Amid Global Debt Concerns

The annual survey highlights a shift in market sentiment, where traditional headwinds like elevated yields are being weighed against mounting concerns over sovereign debt and fiscal stability. While high rates typically dampen demand for non-yielding assets, experts suggest the global debt burden is reaching an inflection point, potentially overwhelming the appetite for paper currency. Vikram Dhawan of Nippon India Mutual Fund noted that gold is increasingly viewed as a signal that the global financial system is struggling to absorb excessive debt supply.

Central bank activity remains a primary pillar of this bullish outlook. Data from UBS Asset Management shows that 65% of reserve managers prioritize diversification, viewing gold as a unique asset free from counterparty or default risk. This appeal is compounded by geopolitical fragmentation and the desire to hedge against the long-term erosion of fiat purchasing power. For silver, participants anticipate a 54% jump from current levels. Despite efforts by industrial sectors to thrift usage due to high prices, structural demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure, electric vehicles, and solar technology continues to provide a resilient floor for the metal.
