The rapid adoption of gold contracts highlights a broader trend toward high-frequency event trading on the platform. Analysts at Predict Charts estimate that gold markets generated approximately $5 million in trading fees throughout September, nearly double the $2.6 million attributed to 15-minute Ether contracts. Despite this momentum, Bitcoin remains the dominant force in the category, producing an estimated $60.4 million in fees over the same period.
This shift is part of a wider expansion in 15-minute markets, which now account for the vast majority of Kalshi’s non-sports revenue. These products, which allow users to bet on asset price movements within brief time windows, generated $20.4 million in fees during the week ending October 5. The platform’s fee structure, which scales based on the proximity of contract pricing to even odds, has benefited from the high volatility and frequent trading activity inherent in these short-term commodity windows.
Kalshi’s commodity category is outperforming the early growth metrics of its crypto offerings, reaching $400 million in cumulative volume in roughly half the time previously required by crypto products. While gold leads the commodity charge, the exchange continues to expand its offerings to include silver, oil, copper, and agricultural products. As the platform reportedly evaluates new funding rounds at valuations approaching $40 billion, it is also preparing to introduce perpetual contracts for precious metals, signaling a continued push to diversify beyond its existing event-based prediction model.
