The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) provided an additional 800,000 barrels to commercial stocks, leaving the facility 431 million barrels below its maximum capacity. Energy analysts note that current levels sit within the 250-300 million barrel range, a zone where extraction efficiency becomes increasingly difficult. Despite the steady erosion of commercial stocks—down 38 million barrels over 25 weeks—year-to-date figures remain up by nearly 13 million barrels.
Domestic production continues to climb, reaching 13.955 million barrels per day for the week ending September 25, an increase of 450,000 barrels per day compared to the previous year. Market reaction remains mixed: Brent crude traded at $100.90, reflecting a 0.62% gain, while WTI hovered at $89.71. Gasoline inventories mirrored the crude trend with a 1.37 million barrel decline, whereas distillate stocks saw a modest build of 461,000 barrels. Notably, the Cushing delivery hub recorded an 866,000 barrel gain, providing a localized buffer for WTI futures.
