Visa and ADI Foundation Partner to Bridge Blockchain and Legacy Payments

Visa is joining forces with the Abu Dhabi-based ADI Foundation to explore how distributed ledger technology can integrate with existing global payment networks. This exploratory collaboration aims to modernize how financial institutions move value without requiring them to abandon their established, regulated infrastructure for new digital asset systems.

The partnership, born from a signed Memorandum of Cooperation, focuses on developing infrastructure that allows blockchain systems to complement traditional electronic payment networks. While both firms emphasize the need for greater interoperability, they have yet to disclose specific blockchains, stablecoin assets, or a definitive commercial timeline for the initiative. The work will center on enhancing the efficiency of payment flows and creating technical frameworks that satisfy institutional requirements such as policy compliance and operational stability.

Vira Platonova, Visa’s senior vice president and global head of money movement, noted that the rapid evolution of how money moves necessitates new approaches to trusted networks. ADI Foundation, which operates out of the Abu Dhabi Global Market, has positioned its proprietary ADI Chain specifically for stablecoins and real-world assets within the MENA region. Chief Business Officer Svyatoslav Senyuta stated that the future of digital finance hinges on building infrastructure capable of working seamlessly with global institutions already moving capital at scale.

This agreement follows a year of aggressive digital asset experimentation for Visa. The payment giant recently completed a pilot with Lloyds Banking Group, settling $750,000 in obligations using USDC, and has established similar institutional research partnerships with South Korea’s Shinhan Financial Group and Dunamu. As of September, Visa reported an annualized stablecoin settlement rate of $20 billion, with its stablecoin-linked card network supporting 160 programs. Despite the momentum, both Visa and the ADI Foundation maintain that current activities remain in the research phase, with no guaranteed product launch dates.
