Gold Climbs as U.S. Payrolls Stumble

The U.S. labor market added a meager 29,000 jobs in September, falling drastically short of the 89,000 positions economists anticipated. This sharp deceleration in employment growth has reignited safe-haven demand, propelling gold prices upward as investors react to the cooling economic landscape and shifting expectations for Federal Reserve policy.

Gold Climbs as U.S. Payrolls Stumble

Spot gold surged 1% following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics data, last trading at $4,223 an ounce. The report highlights a broader softening in the economy, evidenced further by the unemployment rate climbing to 4.2%, exceeding the 4.1% consensus estimate.

Analysts had signaled that a weaker-than-expected jobs report would serve as a primary catalyst for bullion gains. With the labor market growth stalling significantly, the market is recalibrating its outlook on interest rates, driving capital toward precious metals as a hedge against economic uncertainty.
