Sequans Communications Exits Bitcoin Strategy to Refocus on Semiconductors

Sequans Communications has liquidated its remaining 314 Bitcoin, effectively ending the company's foray into cryptocurrency treasury management. This final sale marks the conclusion of a year-long financial restructuring process intended to eliminate convertible debt and pivot resources back toward the firm’s core semiconductor business.

Sequans Communications Exits Bitcoin Strategy to Refocus on Semiconductors

The semiconductor manufacturer confirmed on September 24 that its balance sheet is now entirely free of digital assets. This transition follows a series of divestments throughout 2026, where the company utilized Bitcoin holdings to settle $189 million in debt and support an American depositary share buyback program. By May, the firm had redeemed its remaining convertible obligations, leaving only minor debt linked to government-funded research projects.

CEO Georges Karam described the liquidation as a measured effort to capitalize on the firm's growth in cellular IoT and software-defined radio sectors. Recent performance data indicates a pivot is underway, with product revenue climbing over 80% year-over-year in the second quarter. The company is currently prioritizing the development of its 5G eRedCap platform and new RF transceiver technology, targeting expansion into defense, drone, and space industries. Unlike other corporate entities such as Strategy, which continues to maintain and expand its massive holdings, Sequans has opted for a clean break to prioritize its primary operational momentum.
