KB Securities partners with Securitize and Optimism for tokenized funds

South Korean brokerage giant KB Securities has entered a tripartite agreement with Securitize and the Optimism Foundation to launch tokenized funds for institutional investors. The partnership aims to leverage OP Mainnet infrastructure to debut a money market fund, signaling a strategic push into digital asset-backed securities within the Korean market.

The collaboration marks a significant step in aligning traditional institutional finance with blockchain technology. KB Securities intends to draw on its extensive client base and distribution network, while Securitize provides the underlying tokenization architecture and Optimism delivers the Layer 2 blockchain framework. Although the initiative currently exists as a memorandum of understanding rather than a live product launch, the parties have identified a money market fund as the initial vehicle for this venture.

Future expansion plans remain contingent on the evolution of South Korea’s regulatory landscape. The Financial Services Commission has outlined a three-stage roadmap for tokenized securities, with private money market funds and institutional bonds slated for eligibility by February 2027. Should local laws permit, KB Securities aims to eventually incorporate stocks, corporate bonds, and government debt into its digital offering. The firm is also evaluating the feasibility of distributing existing global tokenized funds to its domestic institutional clients.

This move places OP Mainnet at the center of institutional-grade financial instruments, a choice that Jing Wang, CEO of OP Labs, characterized as proof that tokenization models hold utility beyond U.S. dollar-denominated markets. Meanwhile, Securitize continues to expand its international footprint, having already facilitated major projects such as BlackRock’s BUIDL fund. For KB Securities, which reported 76.5 trillion won in total assets as of December 2025, the partnership represents a calculated effort to remain at the forefront of the country's shifting capital-markets framework.
