TotalEnergies Secures $1.8 Billion Infrastructure Deal with GIP

TotalEnergies and BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners have finalized a $1.8 billion capital injection into the French energy major’s African midstream portfolio. Under the agreement, the company will compensate GIP through throughput-based tariffs over the next 15 years, securing liquidity for its expansive energy operations across the continent.

While TotalEnergies has opted to keep the specific assets tied to the deal under wraps, the capital infusion marks a strategic pivot to monetize midstream infrastructure while intensifying exploration efforts elsewhere. CFO Jean-Pierre Sbraire noted that the partnership serves to crystallize the value of existing logistics, allowing the firm to maintain its aggressive development pace in core African markets.

The company is currently deepening its footprint in Angola, Namibia, and Uganda. In Angola, recent exploration success in Block 17 has accelerated production timelines, with the Acacia-5 discovery slated to reach first oil by June 2026. Simultaneously, the firm has consolidated control over Namibia’s Mopane and Venus discoveries, positioning itself as a dominant operator in the region’s emerging exploration hotspots. In Uganda, the joint development of the Tilenga and Kingfisher fields continues, supported by the $5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline. This project remains central to Uganda's transition into a global crude exporter by early 2027.
