Saudi Arabia Redirects Crude Exports Through Hormuz After Pipeline Attack

Drone strikes on the East-West pipeline have forced Saudi Arabia to pivot its crude export strategy, funneling 60 million barrels through the Strait of Hormuz. By utilizing ship-to-ship transfers at Oman’s port of Sohar, the Kingdom aims to bypass the damaged infrastructure and maintain its commitments to Asian refiners.

Aramco is facilitating these transfers to keep global supply chains moving after the 750-mile pipeline, which typically allows the Kingdom to export from the Red Sea port of Yanbu, was shuttered last week. The strikes originated from Iraqi territory near the Iranian border, necessitating an immediate shift in logistical operations to prevent a supply bottleneck.

Most of this redirected volume is currently bound for China and South Korea, with additional cargoes destined for India and Japan. This rapid logistical adjustment has effectively calmed market volatility. Oil prices, which initially spiked on supply fears, are now tracking toward a weekly decline as traders acknowledge the effectiveness of the alternative shipping routes through the Gulf of Oman.
