Energy Minister Monica Musenero Masanza introduced the Pearl Sweet brand to industry leaders at the APPEC 2026 conference, highlighting its low 0.12% sulfur content. The product originates from the Tilenga and Kingfisher fields, which are operated by France’s TotalEnergies and China’s CNOOC. These projects serve as the foundation for a national output expected to reach approximately 200,000 barrels per day at peak production.
The logistical centerpiece of this expansion is the $5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline. Stretching 1,443 kilometers from the Albertine Rift Basin to the Tanzanian port of Tanga, the infrastructure is now more than 90% complete. Designed with a baseline capacity of 216,000 barrels per day, the pipeline is engineered to accommodate a future ramp-up to 246,000 barrels, providing the necessary conduit for Uganda to bypass geographical barriers and reach global refineries.
