Uniswap Founder Eyes Global Finance With Tokenized Asset Pools

Automated market makers could bridge the gap between decentralized finance and traditional capital markets, according to Uniswap founder Hayden Adams. His argument centers on correlated asset pools, which recently demonstrated their viability by processing $33 million in volume across 10 tokenized stock-SPY pairs over just 12 days.

Adams suggests that by grouping correlated assets—such as individual stocks and their corresponding index funds—liquidity providers can significantly reduce inventory risk. Unlike traditional order-book exchanges that rely on professional firms to hedge exposure, automated market makers (AMMs) allow users to trade directly against shared pools. This model potentially lowers costs and deepens liquidity, as investors who already hold both assets can provide capital without the need for complex hedging instruments.

The recent performance of tokenized stock pools on the Robinhood Chain serves as a practical test for this architecture. With over 11,000 traders participating, the system successfully routed transactions directly between assets, bypassing the need for constant dollar-based settlement. While Adams acknowledges that the integration of regulated securities into these pools will depend on evolving U.S. oversight, he maintains that the organic structure of onchain markets is already shifting toward these efficient, interconnected clusters.

Technological upgrades, specifically the introduction of hooks in Uniswap v4, are expected to further refine this process by allowing for custom pool functions, such as lending dormant capital. As traditional entities like the Intercontinental Exchange explore their own blockchain-based infrastructure, the competition between decentralized AMMs and conventional market-making firms continues to intensify. The ultimate success of this transition hinges on how regulators harmonize blockchain-based ownership records with the existing requirements for stock market participation.
