Asian Demand Drives Dubai Crude Toward $100 Benchmark

Persistent buying interest from China and India is tightening the market for Middle Eastern crude, pushing Dubai futures toward the $100-per-barrel threshold. Despite geopolitical friction near the Strait of Hormuz and fluctuating global benchmarks, regional refiners remain aggressive in securing supply, keeping prices elevated even as broader markets show signs of hesitation.

Asian Demand Drives Dubai Crude Toward $100 Benchmark

Indian Oil Corp. and PetroChina are leading the charge alongside major refiners in Japan and South Korea, absorbing available Middle Eastern grades despite a notable dip in Saudi Arabian exports. Current shipping data indicates volumes through the Strait of Hormuz are holding between 6 and 8 million barrels per day, even as cargo delays push delivery schedules into the autumn months. The UAE's Murban futures are currently trading at $106.10, while DME Oman stands at $99.18.

This localized price surge contrasts with the recent movement of Brent and West Texas Intermediate, which retreated following a temporary lull in military strikes between the United States and Iran. While traders remain wary of President Trump's warnings of further escalation, Asian importers are diversifying their reach. Beyond the Middle East, buyers are increasingly sourcing barrels from Brazil, Canada, and Argentina, while maintaining heavy intake of Russian supply to meet domestic refinery demands.
