HashKey Group Joins DTCC Digital Assets Working Group

HashKey Group has become the first Asian digital asset service provider to join the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s advisory working group. The Hong Kong-based firm will share regional regulatory insights as the DTCC prepares for an October launch of its institutional tokenization services.

The working group now comprises over 100 institutions, including heavyweights like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq, and the New York Stock Exchange. While the DTCC initially identified 50 participants in May, the expanding roster reflects a broader industry push to integrate blockchain-based representations with traditional market infrastructure. HashKey intends to leverage its experience with Hong Kong’s tokenized bond and fund initiatives to help shape global standards for issuance, settlement, and custody.

DTCC’s upcoming service is designed to create digital twins of securities already held within its depository, which safeguards more than $114 trillion in assets. By keeping underlying assets within the regulated custody system while enabling blockchain transfers, the platform seeks to maintain established ownership protections. Recent production tests conducted in July—utilizing the Canton Network and a private Hyperledger Besu-based blockchain—demonstrated the feasibility of these transfers, covering equity movements and collateral pledges for assets like BlackRock Treasury ETFs and Microsoft shares.

HashKey’s involvement remains strictly advisory. The company stated that its participation does not signal regulatory approval for its own products nor a commitment by the DTCC to adopt its proprietary infrastructure. Instead, the collaboration focuses on aligning Asia-Pacific operational standards with the U.S.-based financial utility as it moves toward the official October rollout.
