BitGo Absorbs NYDIG Trading Unit to Expand Institutional Reach

BitGo finalized its acquisition of NYDIG’s institutional trading business on August 27, absorbing approximately 30 employees and a suite of capital market services. The deal allows the company to integrate derivatives, structured products, and financing into its existing custody and settlement platform, marking a pivot for both firms.

The transaction shifts NYDIG’s strategic focus toward power generation, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance computing. NYDIG currently reports a three-gigawatt development pipeline, with roughly one gigawatt projected for completion by 2028. This move follows NYDIG’s 2025 acquisition of Crusoe’s mining operations, signaling a departure from traditional financial services to energy-intensive infrastructure.

For BitGo, the integration aims to support the full lifecycle of digital assets for hedge funds, family offices, and corporate investors. CEO Mike Belshe stated the acquisition is intended to scale the platform and improve capital efficiency, though the company has not disclosed the purchase price or specific revenue projections. Following the deal, BitGo’s shares closed at $7.16, reflecting a 1.9% increase during the session.

Operational success now depends on the seamless transfer of client relationships and the complex regulatory alignment of the new services. While BitGo operates under a federally chartered national trust bank, the acquired derivatives and financing products may remain subject to varying banking, securities, and commodities regulations. Pete Janney, who now oversees financial infrastructure at BitGo, indicated the transition is underway, though the company has yet to release a definitive timeline for product availability under the BitGo brand.
