Uranium Prices Rally as Nuclear Energy Demand Hits AI Bottleneck

Uranium futures are climbing toward $89 a pound, marking their highest point since February. This resurgence follows a period of stagnation, driven by a structural market deficit where years of mining underinvestment collide with the massive electricity requirements of the expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure and data-center sector.

Uranium Prices Rally as Nuclear Energy Demand Hits AI Bottleneck

The supply-demand imbalance remains the primary engine behind the price momentum. New uranium projects typically require a decade to reach production, rendering miners like Cameco unable to adjust quickly to the current market pressure. Goldman Sachs analysts have repeatedly highlighted this widening gap, noting that the sector has entered a sustained deficit that will only intensify as new reactors come online.

Global nuclear expansion is heavily anchored by China, which is projected to become the world’s largest nuclear power market by 2030. UBS analyst George Eadie observed that accelerating utility procurement and consistent strength in term pricing confirm the market is tightening structurally. As hyperscalers race to build out data centers, nuclear energy stands out as the only scalable, low-carbon option capable of providing the reliable, around-the-clock baseload power required to sustain high-intensity computing.
