Gold Stumbles as New Home Sales Miss Expectations

A sharp 10.5% plunge in U.S. new home sales during July has failed to ignite a rally for gold, as investors prioritize profit-taking over safe-haven positioning. The precious metal retreated from its overnight resistance, trading at $4,618.80 an ounce despite the housing sector's deepening struggle.

Gold Stumbles as New Home Sales Miss Expectations

The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development revealed a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 607,000 units. This figure fell short of the 620,000-unit consensus, marking a stark contrast to June's upwardly revised pace of 678,000. On an annual basis, sales have now contracted by 6.3% compared to July 2025 levels.

Gold prices shed 0.68% during the session, signaling that the market is currently ignoring the cooling housing data in favor of locking in gains. While analysts suggest the metal maintains a floor as a defensive asset, the immediate price action remains anchored by technical resistance tested at $4,700 earlier in the week.
