Franklin Templeton brings tokenized US government fund to HashKey

Franklin Templeton is expanding its footprint in Asia by listing its tokenized U.S. government money market fund, grBENJI, on the HashKey Exchange. The move grants professional investors in Hong Kong direct access to the fund through HashKey’s regulated Earn channel, leveraging blockchain infrastructure to manage U.S. government debt and cash assets.

The partnership marks a strategic push to bridge traditional asset management with digital infrastructure. According to Chetan Karkhanis, Franklin Templeton’s senior vice president of digital assets client engagement, the listing taps into HashKey’s institutional client base, offering enhanced transparency and speed. The fund remains restricted to professional investors in Hong Kong, aligning with local regulatory frameworks.

Looking ahead, the two firms intend to move beyond money market instruments. Both companies are exploring additional tokenized products to distribute across key markets, including Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Bermuda. HashKey Exchange CEO Haiyang Ru noted that the addition of grBENJI addresses a growing institutional appetite for compliant, real-world asset-backed yield products. This collaboration follows a period of rapid growth for Franklin Templeton’s digital division, which saw its tokenized assets climb to over $2.5 billion within a year, supported by broader industry trends that have pushed the total value of tokenized real-world assets to $38.2 billion.
