Ethereum Outperforms Bitcoin as Analyst Calls for Rotation

Ethereum climbed to $2,463 on August 24, marking a 29.3% weekly gain that significantly outpaced Bitcoin’s 21.4% advance. Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee points to this shift as evidence that a long-awaited rotation into the asset has finally begun, fueled by renewed institutional interest and evolving network utility.

Ethereum Outperforms Bitcoin as Analyst Calls for Rotation

The relative strength of Ethereum is best captured by the ETH/BTC ratio, which rose to 0.0318 from 0.0299 in just one week. While broader market conditions lifted both assets, the widening gap suggests capital is increasingly favoring Ethereum. This trend aligns with a surge in institutional demand, evidenced by U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs attracting $365 million in July, nearly doubling the $205 million recorded by Bitcoin funds during the same period.

Lee attributes this momentum to nearly a decade of infrastructure development, specifically in tokenization, stablecoins, and artificial intelligence applications. He forecasts the price could reach $10,000 within two years, though he acknowledges this is a speculative projection rather than a guaranteed outcome. Supporting this bullish stance, BitMine Immersion Technologies—where Lee serves as chairman—now holds 5.82 million ETH, or roughly 4.8% of the total circulating supply.

Despite the optimism, the asset remains roughly 50% below its August 2025 peak of $4,946. Analysts are now watching the $2,400 price floor and the 0.030 ETH/BTC ratio to determine if this rally represents a fundamental shift or a temporary fluctuation. With competition from Solana and other layer-2 systems persisting, Ethereum must sustain its current velocity to validate the rotation thesis.
