Michael Saylor Reaffirms Bitcoin as Digital Energy for Corporate Treasuries

Michael Saylor recently characterized Bitcoin as a mechanism for converting economic value into a digital form that entities can securely control. This metaphor frames his broader investment thesis, positioning the cryptocurrency as durable, transferable energy, even as his company, Strategy, navigates the complexities of maintaining its massive treasury.

Strategy currently holds 840,447 BTC, representing approximately 4% of the total 21-million supply. With Bitcoin trading near $77,175, the firm’s holdings sit roughly $1.5 billion above their $63.36 billion aggregate acquisition cost. While this valuation marks a recovery for the company, the figures remain subject to market volatility and do not account for debt, taxes, or operating expenses.

Beyond direct holdings, Strategy is managing its capital through a platform dubbed Digital Credit. This includes exchange-listed preferred shares like STRC, which are conventional securities rather than blockchain tokens. To support the market price of these shares, the company recently repurchased 1.39 million units using funds raised from common share sales. Chief Executive Phong Le indicated that the firm plans to resume Bitcoin accumulation once these preferred shares stabilize toward their $100 stated amount. With $4.80 billion currently held in cash reserves, the company’s future movements remain tethered to the balance between its treasury strategy and market-based share support.
