Tom Lee tips Ethereum to outpace Bitcoin on AI and tokenization

BitMine Chairman Tom Lee has identified BMNR as the primary US-listed proxy for Ethereum, citing an 80% correlation between the stock and the asset. Lee argues that emerging demand from Wall Street tokenization and AI-driven blockchain agents will propel Ethereum to outperform Bitcoin in the current market cycle.

Fundstrat’s latest analysis of 17 large-cap firms highlights a shifting landscape for equity investors seeking crypto exposure. While MicroStrategy remains the benchmark for Bitcoin-linked stocks with a 78% correlation, BitMine leads the Ethereum group. BitMine’s strategy centers on an aggressive accumulation policy, holding over 5.8 million ETH—roughly 4.8% of the total circulating supply—as of mid-August.

The firm’s reliance on staking provides a revenue stream distinct from Bitcoin-focused competitors. With approximately 87% of its holdings staked, BitMine projects annual rewards reaching up to $287 million. This model relies heavily on network performance, staking yields, and market price, distinguishing it from the passive treasury approach favored by other institutional players.

Institutional interest is increasingly reflected in regulated vehicles. In July, spot Ethereum ETFs saw $365 million in inflows, outpacing the $205 million directed toward Bitcoin funds. Lee suggests this momentum, combined with the integration of financial services like the Robinhood Chain, signals a transition where utility-driven demand—specifically in AI and real-world asset tokenization—replaces the speculative cycles of the past.
