Binance employees released following UAE questioning

Two Binance staff members were released by United Arab Emirates authorities after being questioned regarding third-party fund flows. While the exchange maintains the employees were cleared of wrongdoing and were never formal targets of the investigation, the incident highlights ongoing regulatory scrutiny of crypto-asset transaction oversight in the region.

The detentions, first reported by The New York Times, occurred at UAE airports in recent weeks. Binance stated the questioning was part of a routine inquiry into funds passing through a client money account, rather than a targeted probe into company personnel. Although the exchange claims the employees have been cleared, UAE authorities have yet to issue a public statement, name subjects, or announce formal charges.

Binance FZE continues to operate under an active license from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, which covers exchange, brokerage, and lending services. The company is currently working with police across the Emirates to establish more formal coordination procedures for handling similar inquiries. This approach contrasts with the exchange's legal battles in Nigeria, where executives faced significant criminal charges. Currently, there are no court proceedings or travel restrictions publicly linked to the UAE matter, and the specific transactions under review remain undisclosed.
