Ethena Taps FalconX for Institutional Stablecoin Lending

Ethena has appointed FalconX as an institutional lending partner, integrating an overcollateralized credit facility into the backing of its USDe synthetic dollar. The arrangement utilizes a bankruptcy-remote vehicle in the Cayman Islands, allowing Ethena to deploy capital while maintaining a first-priority security interest over the underlying loan receivables.

The partnership structures Ethena’s capital deployment through a revolving senior secured credit facility extended to FalconX International Lending Opportunities SPC. This vehicle acquires crypto-backed institutional loan receivables from FalconX originators, which are then pledged as collateral to Ethena. While specific commercial terms, credit limits, and pricing remain confidential, the protocol emphasizes that this structure offers more favorable risk-adjusted returns compared to existing channels.

Risk management remains central to the deal, with LlamaRisk overseeing the framework. Ethena receives daily loan-level data and maintains the ability to verify collateral against specific wallet addresses. Because the facility relies on overcollateralization, borrowers must pledge assets exceeding the value of the stablecoins received, providing a liquidation buffer. This move continues Ethena’s broader diversification of USDe reserves, which has seen the protocol pivot away from crypto basis positions toward institutional lending, DeFi protocols, and liquid stablecoins. As of early July, institutional lending comprised approximately $310 million of the protocol’s backing, with the latest agreement utilizing a structure legally separated from FalconX’s U.S.-regulated trading affiliates.
