Putin Threatens European Shipping in Shadow Fleet Escalation

While European authorities have already seized nine tankers, including four in France and the Smyrtos in the English Channel, the Kremlin’s move risks transforming a bureaucratic trade dispute into a volatile maritime confrontation. Simultaneously, the U.S. House is reviewing aggressive new legislation that would broaden penalties against any entity facilitating Russian energy exports, further tightening the net around Moscow’s maritime operations.
