Ripple extends academic blockchain partnership with NYU Abu Dhabi

Ripple has committed to funding New York University Abu Dhabi’s blockchain research program through 2027, deepening a partnership that has already funneled over $1 million into academic projects. The collaboration links global fintech development with localized initiatives, including a blockchain-based trade platform for smallholder farmers in Ghana.

The renewed six-year grant supports the work of professors Raša Karapandža and Yaw Nyarko, who co-direct the university's Center for Technology, Economics and Development. Researchers plan to investigate whether decentralized technologies can effectively lower trade barriers and improve market efficiency. A primary focus remains the Volta Initiative, a serverless mobile application built on the XRP Ledger that facilitates commerce for agricultural workers. Plans are currently underway to expand the project into new regions while introducing financial tools for credit and risk management.

Beyond field research, the funding sustains fintech education and venture development programs. Students will continue to engage in hands-on coursework, designing and testing blockchain applications while participating in forums that bridge the gap between academic theory, policy, and industry practice. This extension aligns with Ripple’s broader regional strategy, following the company's recent expansion of its Middle East and Africa headquarters in Dubai and the regulatory recognition of its RLUSD stablecoin within the Abu Dhabi Global Market.
