ADNOC Expands Spot Market Presence to Bypass Hormuz Constraints

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has launched its eighth spot tender since June, signaling an aggressive push to move crude volumes despite ongoing regional shipping tensions. By offering Upper Zakum, Umm Lulu, and Das grades for autumn loading, the UAE is effectively leveraging its infrastructure to circumvent the Strait of Hormuz.

The state-backed producer is providing buyers with flexible delivery options, ranging from free-on-board terms at Fujairah and Zirku to ship-to-ship transfers in Malaysian waters. This strategy relies on an extensive shuttle network that moves crude onto larger tankers outside the chokepoint, effectively sustaining export levels that reached a record 4.1 million barrels per day in June.

Since its departure from OPEC in May, the UAE has prioritized bypassing traditional maritime bottlenecks. By maximizing its cross-country pipeline to shift production from western fields to eastern terminals, the country has maintained export volumes at pre-crisis levels. Tracking data indicates that the UAE currently leads Gulf producers in throughput, utilizing both pipeline capacity and tankers operating in dark mode to ensure consistent market access for its oil.
