David Schwartz calls out Bitcoin Knots over 'under attack' claims

The dispute centers on the BIP-110 branch, which effectively ceased operations after failing to maintain momentum. While Bitcoin Knots urged users to avoid software downgrades to prevent exposure to what it labeled as invalid blocks, the proposal itself has been officially marked Closed in the Bitcoin repository. Data from OCEAN confirms the branch has remained frozen at block 961,633 for nearly 60 hours, despite the project’s warnings of an ongoing attack.

Schwartz dismissed the framing, questioning whether the project intended to mislead users unfamiliar with the technical context. Beyond the chain split, the fallout has reached the governance layer of the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal process. On August 10, developer Luke Dashjr was removed from his role as a BIP editor following concerns raised by peers regarding his involvement with BIP-110 and his use of editorial privileges. Dashjr has since labeled the removal an abuse of power.

Bitcoin Knots is now signaling a potential pivot to a new proof-of-work algorithm via deterministic random selection. This shift represents a departure from the existing SHA-256 mining system, though no specific algorithm had been confirmed at the time of writing. As the BIP-110 experiment fades, the community remains focused on whether this minority faction will attempt to establish a separate network or if the governance changes will stabilize the existing repository process.
