Oil Prices Climb as Iran Sets Ultimatum for Hormuz Access

Crude oil benchmarks rose Monday as Iran issued a six-point list of conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while Houthi militants claimed a fresh drone strike on an Aramco refinery in Jazan. Brent crude reached $84.24 per barrel, reflecting renewed volatility in critical energy transit corridors.

Oil Prices Climb as Iran Sets Ultimatum for Hormuz Access

Tehran’s demands include a full withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region, permanent peace terms, and the release of frozen Iranian assets. Given the political friction with the current U.S. administration, these terms remain unlikely to materialize, signaling a prolonged period of restricted transit through the chokepoint. West Texas Intermediate followed the trend, trading at $78.70 per barrel.

Simultaneously, the security of Saudi energy infrastructure faces compounding threats. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree reported a drone attack on the 400,000-bpd Jazan facility, an installation that only recently emerged from repairs following a previous strike in July. Beyond the refinery, militants are increasingly targeting Red Sea ports like Yanbu, which serves as a primary export hub for Saudi crude. These disruptions to alternative export channels continue to exert upward pressure on global energy prices as the kingdom struggles to maintain stable output logistics.
