World Foundation Secures $52.5M to Scale World ID Identity Network

The World Foundation has raised $52.5 million through a strategic sale of WLD tokens, marking another significant capital injection to accelerate the expansion of its proof-of-human identity network. All tokens purchased in this round are subject to a one-year lockup period as the project shifts toward enterprise-scale adoption.

World Foundation Secures $52.5M to Scale World ID Identity Network

Pantera Capital spearheaded the latest fundraising, with support from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto. This capital infusion follows a substantial $135 million round completed in May, bringing the total raised through WLD token sales to roughly $200 million. While the foundation is pushing to integrate World ID into platforms like Zoom, DocuSign, and Tinder, it maintains that these tokens do not confer ownership or profit rights in Tools for Humanity, the firm behind the project’s hardware and software.

The organization is positioning its technology as a necessary defense against the rise of deepfakes and AI-generated synthetic identities. With the release of World ID 4.0, the foundation aims to provide developers with tools to create identity credentials using zero-knowledge proofs. According to project data, the network now counts over 39 million users, with 18 million having completed the biometric Orb verification process. Despite this growth, the foundation faces persistent regulatory headwinds, with investigations into data privacy and user consent spanning jurisdictions from Spain to South Korea. Concerns regarding token concentration also persist, particularly after a Grayscale filing revealed that the 100 largest wallets held approximately 90% of the circulating WLD supply, highlighting the centralized governance structure that continues to influence the network's trajectory.
