Gemini Donates $10M in Bitcoin to Trump-Aligned PAC

Two Bitcoin contributions totaling $10 million were wired to MAGA Inc. by Gemini Trust Company on June 19, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The massive donation to the pro-Trump super PAC occurred just three weeks after the exchange and the CFTC jointly moved to vacate a 2025 consent order.

The filing reveals two separate transfers of $5 million each, made on the same day. These funds represent a significant escalation in the political activity of the Winklevoss twins, who have already funneled millions into crypto-focused advocacy groups. While the timing aligns with a request to dismantle a permanent injunction from a 2022 lawsuit, neither the regulator nor the company has linked the donation to the legal proceedings.

The regulatory dispute dates back to the CFTC’s 2022 lawsuit alleging that Gemini misled officials regarding a Bitcoin futures product. Gemini settled in January 2025, agreeing to a $5 million fine. By May 2026, the agency performed an abrupt about-face, admitting the original complaint relied on flawed evidence and a discredited whistleblower. Despite seeking to lift the injunction, the agency confirmed the $5 million penalty will not be returned to the firm.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has since demanded an inquiry into the CFTC’s decision-making, citing concerns that the regulator is buckling under political pressure. With the agency currently operating with Chair Michael Selig as its sole commissioner and facing a 25% staff reduction, the Gemini case has become a focal point for critics of crypto-industry influence in Washington. As Congress weighs the CLARITY Act, which could expand the CFTC's oversight authority, the intersection of record-breaking digital asset lobbying and federal enforcement remains under intense scrutiny.
