Augustus Hits $1 Billion Valuation to Build Stablecoin Clearing Bank

Financial infrastructure startup Augustus has secured $180 million in a Series B funding round, pushing its valuation to $1 billion. Led by Tiger Global, the capital will fuel the firm’s ambition to integrate stablecoin rails with traditional payment networks, positioning the company to challenge legacy correspondent banking models.

The company intends to deploy these funds to expand its footprint in Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. By building a banking platform that bridges conventional systems like Swift, ACH, and SEPA with blockchain-based settlement, Augustus aims to provide financial institutions with 24/7 programmable access to dollar accounts. Chief Executive Ferdinand Dabitz argues that current cross-border clearing is hindered by outdated, manual processes that fail to operate outside standard business hours.

Augustus is currently navigating the final regulatory requirements for Augustus National Bank, N.A., having received conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency this past May. While the firm already services international clients like Kraken through its European entities, the U.S. charter is intended to provide the direct dollar clearing capabilities necessary to compete with established networks. Beyond traditional finance, Dabitz views this infrastructure as essential for the future of artificial intelligence, suggesting that autonomous AI agents will eventually require the programmable, always-on payment rails that his platform is designed to support.
